Scott Olsen, primarily a nonfiction nature and aviation writer, will be reading in the Museum of Culture and Environment on Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m. Olsen will be reading from a selection of his work, the newest being, “Prairie Sky: A Pilot’s Reflections on Flying and the Grace of Altitude”, a collection of essays demonstrating and exploring the change of perspective that comes with altitude.
Olsen has written ten books, many articles, and one well-read blog titled, “A Week in Fire”. He has also edited multiple anthologies, journals and books, and is currently editor and chief of the literary journal, Ascent.
Olsen’s work was listed among the Notable Essays in Best American Essays for the years: 2013, 2011, 2010, 2008, 2004, 2003, 1998, and 1997. He is currently a professor of English at Concordia College in Minnesota.
After reading Olsen’s newest book, “Prairie Sky: A Pilot’s Reflections on Flying and the Grace of Altitude”, Mark Jenkins, field staff writer for National Geographic said, “In his very bones, Olsen is a bird. Olsen is ready to share his vast knowledge of aviation, nature, fire, and rural communities with the Ellensburg community, Central Washington University students, and everyone else. This event is free and open to the public, so on November 8, at 7:30 p.m., come down to the Museum of Culture and Environment and check out Scott Olsen’s work.
